KeyBank is owned by KeyCorp which was formed in 1994 through the merger of Society Corp. of Cleveland and Key Bank Albany, New York. It traces its roots back to Commercial Bank of Albany (1825). Society Corp. originated as Cleveland's Society for Savings in 1849, and had acquired Cleveland Central National Bank in 1986 and Ameritrust (formerly Cleveland Trust) prior to its merger with the former KeyCorp. KeyCorp is a publicly-traded stock on the New York Stock Exchange.
